ENHANCE SCHOOL PROGRAMMING

  • Work with staff and students to create additional after school programs
  • Provide programs and support for special needs students
  • Provide arts programming (i.e. music, dance, drama, carving, painting, etc.)
  • Include community history and culture in school curriculum
  • Ensure students have access to social worker or mental health councillor in school
  • Provide alternative educational events for students; such as motivational speakers, presentations, video or technology based learning

MAKE POSITIVE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN SCHOOL & COMMUNITY 

  • Invest in additional housing and renovating homes for teachers
  • Invest in keeping good teachers in the community and establish an “adopt a teacher” program to make teachers feel welcome in the community
  • Provide opportunities for parents to be involved in the school
  • Provide opportunities for students to make connections to other areas of the community by job shadowing and building skills through hands on learning
  • Ensure youth members are involved in sports, keep good grades, and are positive role models
  • Address issues with students leaving school early to go home

  • Partner with universities and colleges to provide post-secondary classes in the community
  • Lobby for additional funding for the post-secondary support program
